Three Reasons to Consider LANAP Treatment

LANAP Tucson, AZ

LANAP® treatment benefits patients by improving their periodontal health. It is a less invasive form of periodontal surgery that is safe and shows promising results. Learning more about LANAP treatment can help you decide if the treatment procedure may be right for you in treating periodontitis.

Three benefits LANAP treatment can offer

LANAP treatment can improve periodontal health through the regeneration of bone and gum tissue. This can save teeth from becoming lost and prevent further bone loss that can cause functional, oral health, and cosmetic concerns. This review discusses three reasons why you should consider LANAP treatment if you have moderate to severe periodontal disease.

LANAP is a far less invasive form of periodontal surgery

LANAP, also called laser-assisted regeneration, is an FDA-approved form of periodontal surgery that uses lasers rather than conventional methods of surgery. This form of laser surgery is performed to improve periodontal health through periodontal regeneration, which is the regeneration of lost bone and gum tissue that supports teeth. Many dentists encourage patients to consider LANAP because it is less invasive. This is particularly useful for patients that may feel anxious before a traditional surgical procedure. There is little discomfort after the procedure is over, and the patient should not feel much, if anything, during the procedure itself.

The results are just as promising as alternative forms of treatment

LANAP is a relatively new procedure among dentists, periodontists, and oral surgeons. This leads some patients to ask questions about its efficacy. However, the results are very promising and safe. LANAP promotes gum tissue and bone regeneration much more than traditional gum disease treatments such as scaling and root planing. This can help patients reverse the effects of gum disease and prevent teeth loss and the need for bone grafting and dental implants. Complications during the procedure are very rare as well. Most patients experience minimal swelling, bleeding, and sensitivity. Of course, each patient is different and should discuss their specific situation with their dentist before treatment.

The recovery process is simpler with less chance of post-op infection

The recovery process is simpler with LANAP than with other types of periodontal surgery. WIth other surgeries, it can take several weeks to fully recover and there is a risk of an oral infection if the patient does not take good care of their oral health. While there may be some discomfort and it is still very important to keep the mouth clean during recovery, the process to a full recovery is less discomforting and faster with LANAP. Since there is less swelling, bleeding, and sensitivity, the risk of an infection after a LANAP procedure is much less significant as well.
